μ-Chip Updated Trends

The smallest and thinnest radio frequency IC chip in the world

Hitachi developed the smallest and thinnest radio frequency IC chip in the world with the side length of 0.15mm and the thickness of 7.5μm*1, which is only 1/4 in the area and 1/8 in the thickness of the previously developed radio frequency IC chip with the side length of 0.3mm and the thickness of 60μm.

The IC chip developed this time has the same performance with Hitachi's 0.4mm μ-chip on the market and applies SOI*2 technology which embeds the isolated SOI base to replace former silicon base and reduces the spaces among transistors. Since the increase of the chip quantity carried by each silicon wafer, the output capacity is four times of the 0.3mm chips. Comparing with μ-chip, the output capacity is increased about 10 times.

*1 μm = 1/1000 mm
*2 SOI(Silicon-on-insulator) is a kind of chip manufacture technology, which packages the transistors in the silicon film and isolates the wafer base to effectively control the electronics.
