The Hitachi (China) Research and Development Corporation (HCR&D) was established in April 2005 as the first R&D independent entity set up by Hitachi, Ltd., based on the R&D Center of Hitachi (China) founded in 2000 as the third foreign R&D institute after US and Europe. With the concept of 'Contribution to Society by Technology' which is held by its parent company, Hitachi, Ltd. the HCR&D is engaged in developing technologies and products for China and other parts of the world. Currently, the research fields cover next-generation network technology, ubiquitous platform development, open-source software application technology and design and development of home appliances. While focusing on the core technical fields, the HCR&D will establish broad cooperation with Chinese R&D institutes and universities. Up to now, HCR&D has built two R&D facilities in Beijing and Shanghai respectively.
